1968 Ford Mustang GT 428 Cobra Jet
INQUIRE

This 1968½ Cobra Jet is a car Ben has known for many years and once owned himself. The most recent owners enjoyed it for the past three years in central Pennsylvania before travel plans led them back to GTS, and the car has now returned to Erie.
Rather than trailer it, Ben drove the car the 140 miles home at highway speeds. It started, shifted, and ran cool the whole way with every gauge, signal, and light working as it should. The car comes with a framed Elite Marti Report documenting it as a one-of-one build, along with its original factory door tag, original dash VIN tag, and the original buck tag still mounted on the radiator support.
Of the 1968½ R-code Cobra Jets built, just 221 were coupes against 1,044 fastbacks, making this body style the rarer of the two.
Finished in factory Code T Candy Apple Red with the signature black Cobra Jet hood stripe, the car wears an older restoration that has held up very well. The paint was recently gone over with a full paint correction by the GTS detail team, bringing the gloss and depth back to life. Panels are straight with good fit, and the chrome and trim present nicely.

The car rides on the proper GT styled steel wheels with correct center caps and trim rings, wrapped in correct Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 bias-ply tires mounted and balanced about three years ago with roughly 500 miles on them since. It retains its Carlite glass throughout, believed to be original to the car, and still carries the factory tie-down sticker at the rear.
The trunk is solid and nicely detailed, with clean drops and aprons, proper stickers, and a bias-ply spare. This is a highly detailed car throughout, inside and out, above and below.

Under the hood is the 428 Cobra Jet big block backed by the factory C6 automatic transmission and a 3.50 rear axle. The car is equipped with factory power steering and factory power front disc brakes, making it an easy and compliant driver.
The engine bay remains nicely detailed from the restoration, with correct date-coded plug wires, the correct coil, and factory stamps and markings still in place. GTS has just completed a full service: fresh high-zinc 20W-50 oil and a new FL-1A filter, marine-grade grease through the ball joints, tie rod ends, and pitman arm, and the carburetor pulled, cleaned, and resealed. It starts easily, shifts cleanly through all three gears, and has that unmistakable big block sound.

The standard black interior is in very nice condition. This is a factory center console car, and it retains its original seat belts and Philco radio. The seats, dash, carpet, and trim all present well and show the care this car has received.

This 1968½ Ford Mustang GT 428 Cobra Jet Coupe is one of 221 produced and a documented one-of-one in factory Code T Candy Apple Red over black with console. It retains its original door tag, dash VIN tag, and buck tag, and is backed by a framed Elite Marti Report. With its factory C6 automatic, power steering, power front disc brakes, fresh service, and recent paint correction, it is an older restoration at exactly the right point to be driven and enjoyed. Most people will look at it and see just another '68 coupe — until the hood comes up. A rare opportunity to own a Cobra Jet you'll never see another of at the local cruise night.
