This beautiful 1988 Ford Mustang LX Convertible has travelled a mere 60k miles in the last thirty-two years and it is absolutely a time capsule! I had to buy this car because a buddy of mine in the eighties had the same exact car—2.3 four-cylinder, five speed, black exterior, red interior, power top, etc!! So obviously the 2.3 four cylinder is not everyone’s cup of tea, however, these motors were both simple, and bullet proof. The car is fully documented with a Marti Report, clean car fax, receipts, copies of previous titles, etc. The paint is all original and all Vin stickers are present on all of the body panels. We recently serviced this pristine little stang and also had the paint clay buffed, show detailed, and the original top and interior detailed. The car is currently sitting on our tiled showroom floor next to our personal ’68 Shelby GT500 in black—that is how nice this little survivor is! This car can be enjoyed and is sure to go up in value as there are not many of these little four cylinder convertibles, particularly with a 5 speed, surviving today. Fox body Mustangs in general are becoming very hard to find in original, unmolested condition, let alone a 60k mile example in black with a drop top. The fit and finish of all panels is spot on with this car. The paint has recently been the subject of an eight hour professional detail, clay buff, convertible top cleaning, etc. The paint has to be one of the best examples of an ‘80’s black surviving paint job with great depth, clarity, and virtually no imperfections. The car was a Virginia car for a long time and never subjected to any inclement weather and it shows. All of the rubber, moldings, glass, body panels, and the underneath are in “as new” condition. Every Vin sticker is present on the car placed on every panel from Ford. This truly is a surviving “time capsule” that presents in just gorgeous survivor condition.
The original, numbers matching, 2.3 Lima four cylinder quickly fires to life and the car shifts effortlessly with its original 5 speed T five transmission. The car goes down the road nice and straight with no unusual noises or issues. We recently had the car out on RT 90 and merged onto the highway here in Erie at 75MPH. While not a “speed demon”, this little 2.3 held its own and my wife and I had a pleasurable cruise in this very rare and special little mustang! On a side note, this car is ultra dry underneath. There are absolutely no leaks or issues under this car as it sets on our tiled showroom floor.
The original scarlet red interior still seems virtually new on this car with no rips, smells, decay, etc. The carpet, seat material, dash, and door panels still are factory fresh and with only 60k original miles, the seat foam is nice and plush as opposed to being broken down. Every power option inside this car functions and the car is truly a pleasure to be in on the open road with the top down. The original convertible top is in phenomenal condition and was just treated to a professional detail.
